A practice founded in 1953, run to the same principles today

Shah Doshi Patel & Associates LLP continues the practice of M. A. Shah & Co., Chartered Accountants. The name has changed; the standards of work and the commitment to clients have not.

Our history

From M. A. Shah & Co. to an LLP

CA Mahendrabhai A. Shah founded M. A. Shah & Co., Chartered Accountants, in Anand, Gujarat in 1953. CA Bhupendrabhai G. Doshi joined him in 1954 as the firm's first employee, later became a partner, and built the firm's practice across Gujarat. Over the following decades the firm built a practice in auditing and assurance, taxation and allied laws, financial and legal consultancy, and corporate laws.

Its clients have included multinational companies, listed and unlisted corporate entities, the banking and financial services industry, small and medium enterprises, not-for-profit organisations and owner-managed businesses.

The practice now operates as Shah Doshi Patel & Associates LLP, with offices in Vadodara and Anand. Its work has grown to include IS and controls consulting and fraud examination, alongside the audit and tax work on which it was founded.

What has carried through is a way of working: partner involvement in every engagement, conclusions that rest on evidence, and reporting that management can act on.

Our values

The principles behind our work

Integrity

Honest, ethical conduct in every engagement and every report.

Independence

Opinions formed on evidence, free of influence from the outcome.

Transparency

Findings, scope and timelines communicated plainly to management.

Compliance

Work performed to ICAI standards and applicable regulation.

Governance

Work that strengthens oversight, accountability and control.

Confidentiality

Client information held in strict confidence at every stage.

Our approach

How engagements are run

Partner-led

A partner is responsible for every engagement, from agreeing its scope to signing its report.

Evidence first

Conclusions rest on documents, data and testing, and the working papers show how each was reached.

Technology-enabled

Data analysis and IT controls testing are part of how we work, not a separate service bolted on.

Governance-aligned

Work is planned around the oversight needs of boards, audit committees and regulators.

Advisory-focused

Findings come with specific, prioritised actions, so management knows what to address first.

Our culture

How we work together

Learning

Structured training, documented methodology and time for professional development.

Quality

Work reviewed at every level, with partner sign-off and adherence to ICAI's quality standards.

Stakeholder-driven improvement

Feedback from clients, regulators and our own teams shapes how engagements are run.

Collaboration

Audit, tax, controls and forensic teams work together on engagements that need more than one perspective.

Our distinction in assurance

Assurance supported by controls and forensic work

Assurance at the centre

Audit and assurance remain the core of the practice, and our other services are built around them.

Controls and IS expertise

IS audit and controls testing are part of our assurance work, not left to a separate team.

Forensic awareness

Fraud examination experience informs how audits are planned and where testing is directed.

Strategic focus areas

Our practice areas

Each practice area is led by a partner and draws on the others.

Engagement methodology

From first discussion to follow-through

  1. Understanding the requirement

An initial discussion with a partner to understand the scope, timelines and regulatory context.

  2. Engagement terms

Scope, deliverables, responsibilities and timelines agreed in writing before work begins.

  3. Fieldwork

Work performed by a team supervised by the engagement partner, with regular updates to management.

  4. Reporting

Findings discussed with management before the final report is issued, so nothing in it comes as a surprise.

  5. Follow-through

Support in implementing recommendations and in any later regulatory interaction.
